Texas is so big, so strange and so insane, that Norway uses the state’s name as a synonym for “crazy.”

From Texas Monthly:

If you’re Norwegian or happen to spend a lot of time around Norwegians, then this fact that absolutely blew our minds might not be news to you — but apparently the word “Texas” is slang for “crazy” or “wild,” as in, “the end of the (whatever sport they play in Norway) game was totally Texas!”

Upon further research, Texas Monthly found it to be absolutely true. The news was completely Texas.

Speaking with NPR, Anne Erkin hopes to clear up the confusion:

This, historically, you know, goes back to Norwegians, you know, watching cowboy movies and reading literature about the wild West, you know? And the wild West held, I think with most Norwegians, held strong Texas association. So when we use the expression Texas, we think about – you know, most of us think about a lot of action, a lot fun and a lot of things going on.

There you go. If you ever think Texas is pretty crazy, just know that in one culture, it literally means just that.
